Screening and Assessments
Full Dyslexia Screening or Assessment is a comprehensive assessment aimed at identifying whether “Dyslexia” is the underlying cause of learning challenges at school.
All students receive some form of assessment prior to instruction at Loomis Gateway Academy
Math assessments are given prior to enrollment in:
- Our full time day program
- Our after school tutoring program
- Our summer program
Math Assessment will help us determine:
- Approximately what grade level math is the student capable of
- Which operations do they know
- Are their math facts solid
- Which math facts do they need further work on + – x ÷ ?
- Are they capable in math but confused by the abstract concepts being taught at school
For tutoring and summer school, a math assessment will be administered prior to enrollment, and at the end of the school year.
For our full time day program, math assessments are administered upon enrollment, at the mid-year point (December) and at the end of the year (May)
Reading Assessments are given prior to enrollment in:
- Our full time day program
- Our after school tutoring program
- Our summer program
Reading Assessment will help us determine which reading program is the best starting point:
- Foundation in Sounds
- Wilson Fundations
- Barton Reading and Spelling
- Wilson Reading System
For tutoring and summer school, Reading Assessments will be administered prior to enrollment, and at the end of the school year.
For our full time day program, 3-5 different reading assessments are administered upon enrollment, at the mid-year point (December) and at the end of the year (May), to measure all aspects of reading:
- Accuracy
- Fluency
- Rate
- Comprehension
- Prosody
Full Dyslexia Screening or Assessment is a comprehensive assessment aimed at identifying whether “Dyslexia” is the underlying cause of learning challenges at school.
- Ages 5 years to adult can be screened providing exposure to phonics has occurred
- Parent interview is conducted to gather important information regarding:
– Family history
– Birth history
– Early childhood history
– Educational history - Testing with Standardized tests on site
- Parent meeting to go over the results of the testing and conclusions drawn by the Screener
- This Screening is not intended for parents in pursuit of an IEP which requires and Educational Psychologist
- The fee for a full screening is based on the age of the student and if they currently have an IEP or 504 in place. All prior testing such as an IEP will be included in the comprehensive written report
- Suggestions for remediation and/or accommodations are part of every report
